ИТОГОВОЕ ЗАНЯТИЕ ПО ТЕМЕ "ECO PROBLEMS"

В VII КЛАССЕ

Одна из глав учебника для VII класса посвящена проблемам экологии и называется "How do you treat the Earth?". После окончания изучения данной темы я провожу два итоговых урока: устный зачет и письменную контрольную работу. Устный зачет позволяет выявить в какой мере ученики овладели разговорными клише, умением использовать лексико-грамматический материал для оформления высказываний диалогического и монологического характера.

Подготовка к устному зачету начинается на первом уроке изучаемой темы. Перед учениками ставятся задачи:

- овладеть лексикой по данной теме;



  • усвоить грамматический материал (Simple Present Passive);

  • выбрать одну из изучаемых глобальных экологических проблем;

  • определить экологические проблемы местного края, области;

  • наметить пути решения одной из проблем.

На каждом уроке в дополнение к упражнениям учебника и рабочей тетради используются тексты для аудирования и чтения из различных учебных пособий.

Итоговое занятие проводится в виде пресс-конференции, на которой учащиеся обсуждают не только глобальные проблемы экологии, но и экологические проблемы региона, в котором они живут. За несколько уроков до итогового занятия ученики делятся на две команды: специалисты-экологи и журналисты. Во время подготовки ученики, естественно, сталкиваются с трудностями при отборе материала, определении его актуальности, степени важности для решения поставленных задач. Кроме того, они сталкиваются с трудностями языкового характера при работе с текстами. И в том и в другом случаях я помогаю им преодолеть возникающие затруднения.



"Eco problems".

Задачи урока:



  1. контроль устной речи по теме; развитие умений устной (монологической и диалогической) речи;

  2. развитие памяти, умения обобщать, делать выводы;

  3. формирование экологической грамотности, чувства любви к природе и ответственности за ее сохранение.

К уроку были подготовлены: стенгазета на экологические темы, карта Пермского края со специальными значками (заповедник, заказник, охраняемая территория), рисунки с экологическими знаками, товары с экологическими знаками на упаковке, проспекты зоопарков штата Калифорнии США, таблички с надписями Mass Media, Wildlife specialists.

Учащиеся объединяются в две группы и занимают места согласно табличкам: «Специалисты-экологи» и «Журналисты».

Урок начинается со вступительного слова:

- Good afternoon. This lesson is the last one on the topic "Eco problems". You have to discuss these problems and show what way we can help. At the end of the lesson you should answer the question: Can you help to save the planet? Now let's begin.

Для начала провожу разминку (warming up) для повторения лексики предыдущих уроков.

Т: First, I'd like to ask you what ecological problems do you know about?

PP: Acid rain, deforestation, polluted water, polluted air, the greenhouse effect...

T: But what is the most important problem? What do you think about it?

P1: There are a lot of ecological problems not only in Russia but in the whole world. To me, the most important ecological problem is pollution.

T: But people have always polluted their countries. Some years ago it was not a serious problem. But now it has become more serious. What are the reasons for it?

PP: (варианты ответов)


  • I think people throw away too much litter. There is a lot of litter everywhere.

  • Different kinds of transport make this problem serious.

  • Many factories don't recycle. They produce goods and a lot of litter.

  • In my opinion we know the rules but don't remember them when we go hiking or fishing or just walking in the forest.

  • Factories and cars pollute the air with harmful gases.

T: Oh, I see you can give us many reasons. Thank you. Now try to use our new words and phrases in short dialogues. Ask each other if you are worried about environmental problems. Use the phrases on the blackboard.

На доске написаны речевые клише, которые можно использовать в ответах: I'm worried/ I'm afraid of/ Are you worried...?/ Do you find...?

PP:(работа в парах)

1. - Are you worried about litter?

- Yes, I'm worried when people throw litter away. There is a lot of litter around.

2. - Do you find the situation in our forests worrying?

- I'm afraid of deforestation. It kills lots of animals and birds.

3. - Are you worried about air pollution?

- Of course, I find the problem of dangerous gases very worrying.

T: Thank you very much. I think you are ready for a discussion.

На этом этап разминки заканчивается и начинается основная часть урока, где ученики выступают с подготовленными заранее сообщениями и отвечают на вопросы одноклассников.

Т: We have decided to hold this lesson as a press-conference. To the right we have some wildlife specialists. To the left there are mass media reporters.

Now introduce yourselves. Please, specialists first.

Далее каждый учащийся представляет себя как специалиста или репортера, указывая ту область деятельности, которой он занимается.



  • My name is Evgeny. I'm an animal specialist. I work at the Institute of environmental research. I'm interested in endangered animals.

  • My name is Helen. I like animals and want to take care of them. So, I work for the Animal Protection Service. Very often I visit different Zoos and National Parks to see how animals are protected there.

  • My name is Yegor. I work for the Perm region administration. My duty is to monitor the environment in our region.

- My name is Olga. I'm a reporter for the magazine "Eco news". I'd like to know about ecological problems in our region.

T: I see that our mass media reporters have a lot of questions. But first allow our specialists to speak and they'll tell us about their work. After that you may ask them any questions you want.

На нашем уроке было десять «специалистов», которые выступили со следующими мини-темами: Air pollution; Deforestation; Water pollution; Endangered animals; Eco signs, Protecting animals; Eco problems in Perm region. Объем рассказа не превышал 12-15 предложений.

Привожу примерные ответы по темам "Protecting animals in the USA" и "Eco problems in Perm region". Для подготовки сообщений использовались проспекты зоопарков Калифорнии, тексты учебника, данные Городского комитета по экологии, а также материалы учебных пособий по биологии и географии Пермского края.



Protecting animals in the USA

I recently visited Yellowstone National Park in the USA. It's the oldest and most famous park. It includes large areas of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho. This territory is for animals, birds, fish and tourists. There animals are not killed but protected from danger.

Then I visited San Diego Zoo. There are over 4 thousand rare animals and birds on 100 acres of fields and gardens. We had a day of fun and saw interesting and unusual animals such as gorillas, okapis and polar bears.

We also visited Shamu. It is a sea world park in California. We were told about sea animals and fish and their protection. In Shamu there are a lot of educational programmes to enjoy and discover the way to protect aquatic life. We learnt a lot about it. Here you can see some leaflets. They are colorful and printed on recycled paper.



Eco problems in the Perm region

1. Our region is situated in the centre of Russia. It is rich in natural resources for building.

Not long ago our region was clean and healthy but now we have the same eco problems as all over the world, although ecologists consider the ecological situation in the Perm region to be quite satisfactory. Here are some reasons why:


  • Firstly, in our region there are a lot of woods and forests. They cover more than half of the territory;

  • Secondly, there are no great plants and factories such as oil refineries or electric power stations;

  • Thirdly, many of the factories closed because of the economic crisis;

  • And lastly I should mention the effective work of special nature organizations.

But there are still some eco problems in Perm region. The main ones are:

  • litter is not reused or recycled;

  • the air is poisoned by cars;

  • there is less pure water.

I think that litter is the most complicated problem. In our region there are not enough special litter stations to reuse and recycle it. In our town there are few litter bins. That is why you can see a lot of litter everywhere.

2. Although forests and woods in the Perm region cover more than 50 per cent of the territory, it is necessary to protect and conserve them. All of you know that forests are called "the lungs" of the planet because trees can transform carbon dioxide into oxygen to breathe.

All the forest visitors should keep to these rules to protect forests and woods:

• don't cut young trees;



  • don't break the branches of trees and bushes;

  • don't drop litter or leave it in the forest;

  • don't make noise because animals are damaged by it.

Today, ecologists say that the forests cannot protect animals or give them enough food any more. That is why many squirrels, foxes, hares, elks and minks have died since 1990.

3. The rivers and lakes in the Perm region have some problems too. The water is so polluted that it is not clean enough to drink. Factories pollute the rivers. About 80 per cent of polluted water is thrown into the rivers.

There is an interesting animal living in our rivers. It is called a muskrat. It has valuable fur. It lives on the banks of the Kama river and the Ochyor river. It can also be found in the marshlands. It eats plants, roots, fish and grubs. It is not hunted at all.

More than half of all Russian muskrats live in the Perm region because they are protected here very carefully. Some special places with good conditions for their life have been set aside.

4. The history of Russian national parks began in 1983 and now, at the beginning of the 21st century, we have 33 national parks in Russia.

In the Perm region we have an entire system of nature conservation areas. The national park Basegi was founded in 1982. It is a place of forests and bogs. It covers the territory of 37,9 thousand hectares. The aim of its foundation is to keep unique natural landscapes and nature protection areas.

The national park is often visited by tourists from all over the country. In the park there are 10 roads and some tourist camps which can accommodate 30,000 people a year. There are fine places for fishing and sport hunting. And if you are fond of mushrooms and wild berries you can enjoy gathering them there.

Каждому «специалисту» «журналисты» задали не менее трех вопросов, причем один из вопросов обязательно касался состояния дел в Пермском крае.. Например, по теме "Protecting animals" были заданы следующие вопросы: What is Yellowstone National Park famous for? What animals is the Perm region famous for? How are they protected? По теме "Есо problems in Perm region" были заданы следующие вопросы: What can you say about the problem of deforestation in the Perm region? Can you name the river near Perm with dunking water? What should we do to clean up our town? и т.д.

В конце урока ученикам предлагается ответить на несколько основных вопросов.

Т: At the end of the lesson I'd like to ask you the most important questions of our press-conference: Can we help to save the planet? What should we do to help our planet? What advice can you give?
